Forum theatre will be at the heart of a new programme that will bring 500 learning disabled school-leavers in London together with employers and employment service providers to explore the training and career options open to them. The new scheme, known as ‘Articulate’, is being made possible through a £500,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Young People’s Fund to the disability-led arts organisation, which invite the audience to participate directly on stage to develop their ideas, Shape. Using forum theatre techniques, Shape aims to help these young people articulate their career aims and influence the policies and practices of the organisations that exist to support them into careers and further training. The scheme will start in January 2010 and run until December 2013.
