Money, training and physical resources such as workspace and cultural infrastructure are among the interventions which local authorities can make to support the creative industries, according to a new guide produced by the Local Government Association. ‘Investing in creative industries: a guide for local authorities’ examines the strategic context and the business case for creative industry support, and offers a guide to investment decisions, including a detailed checklist. The report suggests that the creative industries can be used to fill empty retail space, stimulate innovation, help young people into work and take advantage of increased UK tourism. It explores the impact both of capital development and of increased participation. The guide is available both as a download and online, in a more detailed form which continues to be updated.
