Dundee, Hull, Leicester and Swansea Bay (covering Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Neath and Port Talbot) have been shortlisted to become the UK City of Culture in 2017. An advisory panel chaired by Phil Redmond considered the eleven bids. He said the four cities chosen had plans that were both ambitious and realistic that ‘would not only deliver for their communities, but would also maintain the momentum created around the success of Derry-Londonderry.’ The four chosen cities will now have to submit a formal bid by the end of September, with the winner announced in November.
