The Charity Commission has launched a public consultation on its future role and focus.

Following the Spending Review announcement of a 33% real terms cut in its funding by 2014/15, it is seeking to review its key priorities for the next five years and develop a new strategy which can be delivered with diminished resources. Dame Suzi Leather, Chair of the Charity Commission, said: “Business as usual is simply not an option”. The consultation, which runs until January 2011, is the first stage of the review and asks what the key risks are that the Commission should seek to address. As the review progresses, outline proposals and further questions for consultation will be published, with the intention of implementing changes from May 2011. Responses are invited from all those with an interest in the effective regulation of charities. A survey asking questions about the Commission’s role and approach is available online at charitycommissionreview.blogspot.com, or responses can be emailed to strategicreview@charitycommission.gsi.gov.uk
