Bournemouth Theatre in Education (BTiE) will cease to be funded by Bournemouth Borough Council on 31 August, ending 40 years of council-sponsored educational drama and theatre. The Co-Directors, Tony Horitz and Sharon Muiruri, hope to continue to offer programmes of storytelling, short live performance and participatory drama activities, as well as continuing professional development training sessions for teaching staff interested in developing their use of drama and creativity. Double Act (pictured), the Bournemouth-based disability theatre charity, which shares office and storage space with BTiE, is also concerned about these developments. Double Act began in 1998 as a joint project between the council’s Theatre in Education and Arts Development teams, but with the imminent closure of BTiE, Double Act’s future is uncertain.
