A marginal increase in cooperation between small creative businesses and their suppliers can have a positive effect on their turnover, says a report by the University of Bath. Data gathered by Dr Phil Tomlinson from UK studio potters revealed that cooperation between potters, their suppliers and their buyers resulted in the design of products with a greater perceived value in the consumer’s eye and the ability to command a higher price. The research concludes that while artists often work in isolation, co-operation may be a key factor in improving their commercial business prospects.
