BALTIC wins Lottery Award
BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead has been presented with a National Lottery Award for Best Arts Project by sculptor Anthony Gormley after winning a public vote. The gallery is an ex-derelict flour mill that was transformed with the aid of National Lottery money into one of the world’s biggest contemporary arts spaces a decade ago. It has seen over 4.5m visitors in that time. The Lottery Awards are presented to funded projects in seven categories, including arts, education and heritage with winners receiving £2,000 for their organisation.
