Accessible work wins Jodi award
Audio guides, accessible podcasts and support for the families of autistic people have been recognised at the 2009 Jodi Awards, which promote and celebrate accessible digital culture. The awards, given by the Jodi Mattes Trust, cover every kind of digital technology, including websites, in-gallery interactive displays, audio-guides, PDA tours and multi-media projects. Awarded to museums, galleries, libraries, archives, heritage venues and disability organisations in the UK, this year they include an international award for the first time. This was won jointly by the Regional Library of Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic which provides sign language information on its website; and ‘Dedicon’ in the Netherlands, which produces and distributes books, newspapers and information in accessible formats to 30,000 print-impaired people. The Museum of London’s ‘Podcasts from the Past’ were recognised, as was the website of visually impaired artist Sally Booth, whose work is pictured.
