Young people will be taking over the programming and running of York Theatre Royal for three weeks this autumn. The ‘TakeOver09’ festival is the theatre’s response to Arts Council England’s ‘A Night Less Ordinary’ scheme. The festival will be run “by young people, with young people, for everyone”, by a board of 13 young people aged between 12 and 25 (pictured). A festival management team consisting of artistic and administrative roles is currently shadowing theatre staff and planning the programme of work, which will begin on 19 September. The intention is to repeat the festival in 2010, and to enable it to become a regular part of York Theatre Royal’s programming.
