It is with interest that I read your article “The ‘issue’ issue” on 24 March, which mentioned that the Cultural Olympiad will ‘promote art which bigs London up, for two brief weeks’. In fact, the Cultural Olympiad for London 2012 will be an exciting adventure for the whole of the UK, as for the first time we will see culture (in its broadest sense and not just art, dance, music and Shakespeare) taking its place right at the heart of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Although it will be launched with a weekend of activity in September this year, that will be just the start of a four-year celebration of the UK’s culture, which will be designed to enable the widest range of people to participate and to be inspired.

This I know sounds, and is, a huge vision, but we are committed to making this happen, as are our partners who have earmarked around £70 million towards making it a success. So if you believe in excellence, want to inspire and involve young people and welcome the world, you, too, could be involved in the biggest event in the world.
