ArtsProfessional reveals the career paths of the sectors senior managers.

Director, The Met, Bury
(2005-present)

The greatest thing about a small organisation is the opportunities that it can offer. It was such an opportunity that moved me from Marketing Manager to Director within the Met. In this role I can build upon my understanding of the balance and courage of a programme and lead the organisation to thrive. I am still involved in operational issues: crucial to keeping me focused on engaging our audiences and partners.

Marketing Manager, The Met, Bury
(2003-2005)

The Met has 30 years experience in promoting performance. Operating both as a vital community venue for Bury and a strategic music and theatre venue for Greater Manchester, The Mets programme and audiences have grown consistently over the last five years.

Administrator and Venue Manager, Stockport Arts Team
(2001-2003)

As Administrator I was in a great position to witness an explosion of excellent work organised by a great arts development team throughout the community in Stockport.
The individuals involved provided great inspiration and have rightly moved on to play important roles in arts development throughout Greater Manchester.

Freelance - Various roles
(2001-2003)

A frustrating period as I pursued full time employment in the arts. My time at Manchester Evening News Arena in the Box Office taught me much about the importance of the front line experience both for customers and management. Melton Theatre provided my first dedicated marketing role and the first opportunity to test theoretic knowledge in the arts industry.

Temping - Various roles
(1996-1998)

Not unlike national service, various temping roles have proved memorable and useful for an administrative-based career. Roles with telesales, universities and even supermarket distribution warehouses all managed to fund a period of arts job searching and seasonal work with venues.

Belfast Festival Various Roles
(1986-1995)

Growing up in Belfast the Festival was part of my culture. It demonstrated the community strength and pride possible through high profile arts activity and participation. The festival comprises venues across the city and manages an international, multi artform programme rivalling any in the world.
