Ten months into this pandemic, the catastrophic human and economic toll is clear. The coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has caused 18 million infections and more than 300,000 deaths in the United States alone. American job recovery has stalled; companies that were hiring during the summer are now hitting the pause button. Thousands of businesses have closed their doors for good.
