Chief Executive of the Liverpool Philharmonic, MICHAEL EAKIN, and Director of Live Music Now Scotland, CAROL MAIN, have been appointed to the board of the Association of British Orchestras (ABO). EAKIN replaces SIMON WOODS, who has left the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to take over as Executive Director of Seattle Symphony Orchestra.
The Board of the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions has appointed BERNARD DONOGHUE to be Director when ROBIN BROKE retires in September 2011. Donoghue was Head of Government and Public Affairs at VisitBritain, and is a former Chair of VisitManchester and a Director of the Tourism Society.
DAVID POUNTNEY has been named as Artistic Director and Chief Executive of Welsh National Opera. He joins from the Bregenz Festival in Austria where he has been General Director since 2003. He was Director of Productions at English National Opera between 1982 and 1993.
VIRGINIA TANDY has retired from her post as Director of Culture for Manchester City Council after 13 years at the authority. She has served as President of the Museums Association and is currently a Trustee of the National Heritage Memorial Fund and Heritage Lottery Fund.
MARCUS WILSON is leaving the post of Development Manager at HI~Arts to manage Pooka.Pro, a new business providing web development support and services to the cultural and creative sectors.
Marketing Edinburgh has appointed LUCY BIRD as its new Chief Executive. She joins in June from The Sage Gateshead where she is Director of Customer Services, Fundraising, Marketing and Communications.
PAUL STEELE is now the Managing Director at participatory arts organisation Junction Arts, Derbyshire. He replaces TINA GLOVER MBE who has headed up the organisation for the last 17 years and is now retiring.
EMMA GIBSON is the new Communications Manager for Miracle Theatre in Cornwall. She was previously Communications Manager for Wildworks theatre company.
