After five years as Chief Executive of Bath Festivals, Nod Knowles will be stepping down in the autumn to return to a freelance career in the music business. His association with Bath Festivals spans 25 years: he was Jazz Programme Director for 21 years and transitional Chief Executive Officer in the 1990s.

The first Chair of Creative Scotland will be Sir Sandy Crombie, who is also Senior Independent Director of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc, Vice Chairman of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and Chairman of the Edinburgh World City of Literature Trust. The other Board members are Robin MacPherson, Gwilym Gibbons, Gary West, Ruth Wishart, Steve Grimmond, Barclay Price, Gayle McPherson and Peter Cabrelli.

Chris Dercon, Director of the Haus der Kunst, Munich, since 2003, has been appointed as the new Director of Tate Modern. He will join in spring 2011, replacing Vicente Todoli who leaves this month after seven years in the role.

Gerard Lemos is the new Chair of Iniva, the Institute of International Visual Arts. Currently a partner at Lemos & Crane Social Research, he has been on the Board of the British Council for over ten years and was Chair of the Akram Dance Company from 2003 to 2008.

Joanna Read will be the new Principal of the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art, taking over from Peter James, who is stepping down after 16 years. She previously worked for the Young Vic, Birmingham Rep and the Octagon Theatre Bolton, and was Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the Salisbury Playhouse.

The Cholmondeleys and the Featherstonehaughs have a new Learning Project Manager, Louise Jardine (above left), who was previously Laban’s Education and Community Programme. Sarah Nutland (above right), formerly of Lewisham Youth Theatre, has also joined the companies as Administrator.

Michaela Crimmin has left her role as Head of Arts at the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) to work independently as a curator, producer and RSA Associate. She directed a range of projects for the RSA including Art for Architecture, and most recently she initiated and ran Arts & Ecology. She will continue in her role at the Royal College of Art, specialising in commissioning art for the public domain.

DV8 Physical Theatre has appointed a new Chair of Trustees, Andrew Barnett, who is UK Director of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Former Chair Sue Hoyle resigned from the board last year after becoming Director of the Clore Leadership Programme.

Newlyn-based business development consultancy Perfect Moment, which specialises in the arts and third sector, has appointed a new office manager, Cheryl Barraclough (left), who joins from Penwith Housing Association. Finance specialist Barbara Santi and office manager Maria MacEwen are leaving but will continue their involvement with the company as freelancers.

The Jewish Museum has announced that Lord Young of Graffham will become its new Chairman, taking on the role following a £10m redevelopment project. His former positions include that of Chairman of the Institute of Cultural Heritage at University College London, and Chairman of Chichester Festival Theatre. He takes over from Robert Craig, who has been appointed Vice President.

Becky Sayer is joining the National Theatre’s press office after three years as Hampstead Theatre’s press officer. She is handing over to Clióna Roberts and Sharon Kean, who will take joint responsibility for press at Hampstead Theatre on a freelance basis.

Belfast’s Lyric Theatre has appointed Carol Moore to the post of Education and Creative Learning Co-ordinator in preparation for the opening of its refurbished £18m theatre in spring 2011. She previously spent 20 years as a freelance actress, theatre and film director, and was co-founder of Charabanc Theatre Company.
