The Deputy Director for Music4U, the Humber Region’s Youth Music Action Zone, will be Samantha Sumerfield (pictured). She has been part of the Arts Development Team at Hull City Council.

Angela Michaels is the new Associate Director for Half Moon Young People’s Theatre. She is also co-founder of Tell Tarra, a company dedicated to producing new work by black writers, and has directed work for the Unicorn Theatre, National Theatre, Theatre Centre and Soho Theatre.

Theatre Director Cheryl Martin will be joining the Traverse Theatre as Director in Residency, a post supported under a new scheme – the Equalities Career Development Fund. She has been based at Contact Theatre in Manchester for the past three years, as Associate Director responsible for New Writing.

Nigel Lavender (pictured) currently General Manager of Cardboard Citizens, and formerly of the Junction, Oval House and Royal Theatre Northampton, will become the new Executive Director of the biennial Queensland Music Festival, based in Brisbane, Australia.

Music Theatre Wales has appointed Carole Strachan as its new Executive Director. Formerly a specialist fundraiser working through her own company, she replaces Rachel Dominy, who has become Project Manager of Scriptorium, an international graphic art project.

The Arts Council of Wales has appointed Nick Capaldi (pictured) to be its new Chief Executive. He moves from his role as Executive Director of Arts Council England, South West and is currently a Board member of the Bristol Cultural Development Partnership and Culture South West.

Wolverhampton-based Foursight Theatre Company has appointed Hannah Nicklin as its new administrator.

The Clore Leadership Fellows for 2008/09 have been announced. Specialist Fellowships have been awarded to Josie Aston (Arts and Biomedical Science), Amanda Boyle (Film), Mercedes Clark-Smith (Archives), Paul Cutts (Creative Economy), Emma Evans (Arts Council of Wales-supported), Louise Govier (Museums), Joe Hallgarten (Cultural Policy), Subnum Hariff (Libraries), Helga Henry (Entrepreneurial Cultural Organisations), Paul Kirkman (supported by DCMS), Kate McGrath (Theatre), Annie O’Neill (supported by Northwest Regional Development Agency and Culture Northwest), Becky Swain (Learning), Will Tuckett (Dance) and Willie White (Jerome Hynes Fellowship supported by Arts Council of Ireland). General Fellowships have been awarded to Paul Fitzpatrick, David Francis, Ariane Koek, Stefan Lewandowski, Samenua Sesher, Asma Shah, Laura Sillars and Amanda Smethurst. Dame Mary Marsh, Chief Executive of the NSPCC, has been announced as the founding Director of the new Clore Social Leadership Programme, an initiative to develop and encourage emerging talent in the third sector, modelled on the Clore Leadership Programme for the cultural sector.

Theatre Is has appointed arts management consultant Robert Sanderson as its Chair, together with Board members, Faith Ayoola, Hilary Cooper and Tim Freathy.
