At Arts Council England, North West, Alex Middleton becomes Assistant Officer, Media Arts and Literature, replacing Will Carr who is now Director at the Poetry School (London). Maureen Jordan has been appointed as Director, Liverpool; Stephen Baker has become Head of Communications and Marketing; and Barry Davidson is now Acting Officer, Planning and Assessment.

Chris Jenkins (pictured) becomes Chief Executive of Wittdo Leisure and Tourism Development. Previously he was Business Development Manager looking after the Bournemouth International Centre and Pavilion Theatre. He is also chair of the Dorset Music Forum.

Bill Lawrence leaves his role as Head of Film at the National Media Museum in Bradford to take up the post of Creative Director at Showroom and Workstation. He is a director on the Boards of Screen Yorkshire, Bradford – City of Film and the York Film Trust.

David Edwards (pictured), formerly Chief Executive at Derby Playhouse and Head of Operations at Aldeburgh Music, succeeds Marilyn Martin as Chair of the Board of the New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich.

Elmhurst School for Dance has appointed Desmond Kelly OBE as its new Artistic Director. He will leave his current role as Assistant Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet, replacing Mary Goodhew who moves to become Director at the Legat School of Dance in Sussex.

Gila Barnett has been appointed as Theatre Co-ordinator for Spare Tyre Theatre Company.

Kate Gray will become Director at the Collective Gallery. She has previously worked for Artlink Edinburgh and the Lothians. She replaces outgoing Director Sarah Munro, who takes up a new post as General Manager of Tramway.

Hampstead Theatre has appointed Neil Grutchfield as Literary Manager. He has been a freelance dramaturg, theatre practitioner and senior reader for theatre companies, including the Royal Court, The Eclipse Programme, The Theatre Writing Partnership, and Sonia Friedman Productions.

Creative producer of physical theatre, Rebekah Cross (pictured), joins Vayu Naidu Company of storytelling in theatre as the new General Manager. She succeeds Jenny Campbell who will be working with Grange Park Opera for its new season.

The Arts Council, Ireland, has appointed Seán Mac Cárthaigh to its senior management team, in the role of Director of Public Affairs. He was previously the Dublin correspondent of The Irish News.

Musicologist and broadcaster Roderick Swanston is the new President of the Incorporated Society of Musicians. He succeeds Roger Vignoles.

Boris Johnson has appointed Munira Mirza as his new Director of Policy, Arts, Culture and the Creative Industries. Munira writes, lectures and broadcasts on issues related to race, culture and identity. She is currently on an Arts Council England Cultural Leadership Placement at the Tate.
