The new Artistic Director at the newly refurbished Queen’s Hall Arts Centre in Hexham will be KATY TAYLOR, who is currently Executive Director of The Witham, a community arts centre in Barnard Castle. Following The Witham’s £3m revamp, she became Assistant Manager in 2013, before taking on the leadership role the following year.
Actress MAUREEN BEATTIE will be the new President of Equity, taking over from MALCOLM SINCLAIR in July. She is the union’s second female President and the first since BEATRIX LEHMANN in 1946.
CHRIS RICKETTS will become Showcasing Strategy Director for dance in the UK, as part of the Surf the Wave programme. Currently Programme and Touring Producer for Candoco Dance Company and a partner in Fieldwork, a Cardiff based partnership which supports artists and new initiatives, he will lead the development of a UK dance industry touring and showcasing strategy.
PETER MEARNS, Vice-Chair of the Storyhouse board since 2015, will take over as Chair, replacing BILL HUGHES. Mearns is currently Chair of Bluecoat, Liverpool’s Centre for Contemporary Arts; Chair of the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art; Trustee of Open Eye Gallery; and a Committee Member of Tate Liverpool.
Arts engagement consultant CLARE LOVETT has been appointed Chair of the Board at theatre company Out of Joint, taking over from IAIN GILLIE. Lovett was previously Programme Director for Learning & Participation and interim Chief Executive at Spitalfields Music.

The Edinburgh International Festival has announced that AIDAN OLIVER will be the new Chorus Director of the Edinburgh Festival Chorus, taking on the role in the autumn. He is currently Director of Dulwich Choral Society and Director of Music at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey, as well as Associate Conductor of the St Endellion Festival in Cornwall.
Artistic Director of Voices Now MATTHEW SWANN is moving on from the organisation he founded in 2011.
Creative Producer CLARE EDWARDS, who has also been with the organisation since 2011, has been promoted to the new role of Creative Director and CEO. She will lead a new phase of development for the company, which will include flagship events, regional gatherings, choir based research and advocacy.

Pianist AN-TING CHANG is the new Artistic Director at Chinese Arts Now, a new Arts Council England funded body that will take over the responsibilities of Chinese Arts Space. As well as performing regular concerts within the UK and abroad, Chang is the founder of Concert Theatre, a company that blends classical music and drama.
