What does your organisation do?

The Arts Development Unit aims to connect the theatre directly to our local community, running a range of programmes for all ages and encouraging creativity and new skills.

What does your job involve?

I work on a variety of educational and community based projects for children and young people. One of the projects, Imaginary Worlds (see p4), is for pre-school children. By using a bag of props we enable small groups of children to create their own stories.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love my job and the people I work with are fantastic. The impact the projects have on children?s lives are amazing and to be part of that is very special.

What do you find most difficult in your role?

Lack of funding to do projects we know would have a positive impact on inner-city communities.

Who has influenced your career to date the most and why?

Jude Kelly, OBE, (former Artistic Director at WYP).

If you could have done any job, what would it be?

Become a midwife, work for UNICEF, be a backing singer or an educational psychologist, or a combination of the above.

Your wishes for the future of the arts?

? Make arts institutions more accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities
? Improve funding systems so funders support what works and aren?t always looking for new projects
? Raise the profile of creative work with and for early years children.
