The Royal College of Music has announced the launch of its Benjamin Britten International Opera School, which will be dedicated to helping talented individuals develop their potential for becoming world class opera singers. Although involved in the guidance of opera singers for over a century, the College has decided to open the new school to consolidate its opera provision and create an infrastructure for training small groups to the highest professional levels. The course will provide participants with personal training from the Heads of Music from both the Royal Opera and English National Opera and vocalists such as Sarah Walker and Philip Langridge. It will involve masterclasses, concerts, and regular roles in staged operas. To celebrate the opening and in commemoration of twenty-five years since his death, Britten?s ?A Midsummer Night?s Dream? will open on November 17 at the College?s Britten Theatre, and then transfer to the Edinburgh Festival Theatre.
