Scotland?s large-scale theatres have joined forces in an attempt to provide Scottish audiences with better access to a wider range of high quality arts and entertainment.
The new partnership, known as The Scottish Touring Consortium, comprises His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen, The King?s Theatre Glasgow, Theatre Royal Glasgow, Eden Court in Inverness, and the Festival City Theatres Trust in Edinburgh. The Consortium?s role is twofold. Firstly, it will produce a number of shows over the next three years, including drama, music theatre and dance. It will also act as a UK gateway for international companies which can then be toured to the rest of the UK. New work for children and families is seen a priority, and for its first production in autumn 2003, the Consortium is working with the award-winning children?s theatre company Wee Stories to present the tale of King Arthur. The production has received financial support from the Scottish Arts Council Lottery Fund, and further support from Arts Council England will enable it to tour England in spring 2004. Future projects for the Consortium include working with Visible Fictions, Scottish Opera?s Education Unit, Scottish Opera for All, and the cult dance company Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo.
