For the last 18 months, a partnership comprising the University of Northumbria, the Arts Council of England, the Local Government Association, the Voluntary Arts Network and the National Association of Local Government Arts Officers has been working on a solution.
They aim to create a database of recent arts buildings, called The Arts Space Register (TASR).The project?s test phase involves over 20 local authorities working to create music venues, artist studios and multi-use community spaces. The information will assist arts managers in avoiding costly pitfalls. TASR embraces a wide definition of an arts space, and is focussing initially on the small- to medium-scale.
