The Scottish Arts Council (SAC) has announced a range of initiatives in support of the European Year of Disabled People.
A series of seminars will take place across Scotland on the themes of audience development, quality and integration, culminating in a major conference later in the year. Two programmes of research will take place. One will look at access to visual art galleries for disabled people, and the findings will feed directly into the Good Gallery Guide website. The other research will look at marketing to disabled audiences and developing audiences for disabled arts. In addition, SAC will be examining its own policies to address any areas that may be discriminatory, and will be ring-fencing funding for arts organisations to support specific projects and establish good practice examples in engaging disabled people.
