The development of a major new project to create a national Playwrights? Studio for Scotland has begun, headed by Faith Liddell, former Director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
The year-long Playwrights? Studio Development Project was initiated and funded by the Scottish Arts Council and is being managed by the Traverse Theatre, which is providing resources for the project in its role as Scotland?s new writing theatre. Responding to the needs expressed by the Scottish theatre community and playwrights, the project is a national one which will respond to the ideas and ambitions of theatre writers and producers throughout Scotland, and aims to lead to the setting up of a new resource for Scottish playwrights by 2003. The Playwrights? Studio will practically and creatively cater for the needs of playwrights at every stage of their careers, developing, promoting and encouraging the production of their work in Scotland and internationally. It will also help to generate new partnerships with other theatre artists and organisations.
