Mobile phone company, O2, is offering opera-goers the chance to text their votes for the final encore of an open air performance by English National Opera (ENO).

Trafalgar Square will be specially turfed for the occasion and 8,000 people are expected to attend the one-off performance of La bohème on July 7. Paul Samuels, Head of Sponsorship at O2 said, “By allowing fans to vote for the final encore of the evening by text message, O2 is offering a unique interaction with the performance that helps to bring opera further into the mainstream.” The event is among several designed to supplement the ENO’s summer programme which includes Carmen (pictured) and Verdi’s rarely performed opera Ernani.
