The UK?s first cultural regional development agency, the North East Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, has been launched to take on the role of supporting the development of the North East?s cultural sector and ensuring that it makes a full contribution to the economic, social and cultural life of the region.
The new agency will take over from and extend the work of two previous agencies ? North East Museums and Information North. Its purpose is to create the conditions which integrate the sector at all levels of regional planning and development, through strategic leadership, advocacy, advice, exemplar products and service delivery.
