A collaboration between the Arts Council of Wales (ACW) and the Performing Right Society Foundation (PRSF) is set to benefit new music in Wales through the co-funding of a scheme aimed at significantly increasing the number of commissions from Welsh music creators and performances of Welsh new music in Wales.
It also aims to increase the number of new works supported in jazz, world and other currently under-represented genres; to enable the fees for composers and music creators working in Wales to match those of their counterparts working in the rest of the UK; and to extend the reach of the PRSF throughout Wales. PRSF and ACW both currently run schemes to encourage new music, and the similarities between their respective schemes has led to the setting up of this new, jointly-funded pilot scheme, to be known as ?New Music Works?. It will be offered from April 2002 and will be monitored to ensure it is reaching as wide a cross-section of the Welsh creative music community as possible.
