The Museums Association (MA) has published proposals for a new scheme under which every school child would have the opportunity to participate in a paid-for visit to a museum or gallery every year.
Under the proposed Free Museum Visits scheme, which is similar to schemes that exist in other European countries, each school-age child would receive an annual voucher to cover museum or gallery entry fees, plus transport costs. Specialist museum and gallery educators would lead the visits. The MA estimates that the scheme would cost in the region of £70m a year in England and is lobbying the Government to give financial support. For more information
