A £1m scheme funding innovative arts projects that engage the public with medical and scientific advances in the field of biomedical science has been set up by The Wellcome Trust.
In the first round, research awards of up to £15,000 will support the development of ideas, performances and artworks; and at the second stage, production awards of up to £100,000 will be made to substantial projects that will reach wider audiences and make a significant impact on their engagement with science. Previous Wellcome Trust award winners include ?Eye-See? by Rosetta Pictures and APT Films (pictured) who produced a series of short films to communicate the world of people with visual agnosia, who have brain damage that affects the way they see. A new jointly-funded pilot fellowship scheme supporting collaborative research between the fields of the creative and performing arts and science and engineering has also been launched by Arts Council England and the Arts and Humanities Research Board.
