Following a ballot of members, the Musicians’ Union (MU) is set to shed its 72 regional branches in favour of a regional structure to take effect from January 2005.

92% of the members who voted, supported the implementation of the changes, which will see the closure of many branches and the establishment of six regional offices with full-time staff. John Smith, General Secretary of the MU said, “The result gives the Executive Committee an indisputable mandate to restructure the Union and to move the Union forward in a cost-effective, efficient and adaptable way.”
