A partnership between Classic FM and Yamaha, together with the Purcell School of Music, the London Symphony Orchestra and The Barbican, has been recognised as the Arts & Business Champion of the Year.

The partnership has developed two new initiatives: an award for the Music Teacher of the Year, which generated nearly 1,000 entries for which tens of thousands of votes were cast; and a new School of Music, aiming to encourage young people to play a musical instrument. A further seven awards were made for other arts/business partnerships, including the Business Volunteer of the Year award which went to Malcolm Brown, a self employed business consultant, for his work with M6 Theatre Company. His role involved helping M6 back to financial health and providing a strategic framework to grow the organisation.
