The winners of the first annual Jerwood Circus Awards, awarded to aspiring and talented circus creators to create new shows or acts, have been announced by Lord Puttnam, Chairman of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts. £10,000 will go to Kicking The Moon pictured), a new company formed by three young artists - Ashley Carr, Max Haverkamp and Magali Bancel - who have just graduated from the BA Theatre Practice (Circus) Degree run by The Circus Space with the Central School of Speech and Drama.
Two £5,000 commissions have been awarded to John-Paul Zaccarini for his show ?Night and Day? and to Gaynor Derbyshire for Movements Towards A Symphony. The Circus Space will provide rehearsal space and premiere the productions at its annual Festival, which opens in March 2002.
