A contract to deliver a strategy for developing the export potential of the performing arts sector has been won by the Independent Theatre Council (ITC), which will be working in partnership with a range of stakeholders within Government and the performing arts sector to maximise opportunities for arts organisations to work overseas.
The ITC is the management association and industry lead body for 500 UK-based performing arts organisations working across the full range of performing arts activity, many of whom have extensive overseas touring programmes. It will begin its work by canvassing arts practitioners about the issues and barriers that affect their ability to work overseas, and will be mapping the funding opportunities available for the performing arts, and helping performing arts practitioners to understand and access the full range of Government funding schemes that are available to companies wishing to develop work for overseas markets. The contract is a joint initiative between the Department for Culture Media and Sport, Trade Partners UK and the Performing Arts International Development Group.
