Hothouse, a £2m arts complex supporting creative and cultural industries, has opened in Hackney, east London, providing a new headquarters for the award-winning arts charity Free Form Arts Trust.
The London Development has contributed £1.5m to the groundbreaking project, which has seen a new building, designed by Ash Sakula Architects, transform a contaminated brown-field site and adjacent railway arches into a creative space for artists and design professionals. The Hothouse name reflects the area?s horticultural heritage, being built on the site of Loddiges Botanical Nurseries where in the 18th and 19th Centuries, many garden plants were first introduced into the UK from around the globe.
