The first ever Writers? Lab exclusively for Black British playwrights will give ten promising writers the chance to work alongside leading professional directors, writers and dramaturges.
To participate in the Lab, which will take place at Nottingham Playhouse in the autumn, writers will have had at least one play professionally produced or had experience of working in the theatre industry. The initiative is supported by six of the UK's leading theatres - Nottingham Playhouse, Birmingham Rep, West Yorkshire Playhouse, New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich, Manchester Contact Theatre, and The National Theatre Studio - and forms part of the Eclipse Theatre project, which was launched last year to raise the national profile of Black Middle Scale Theatre. The next production in the Eclipse Theatre series will be a national tour of a new Black adaptation of Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage, produced by Nottingham Playhouse in association with the New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich and Birmingham Rep. w: http://www.eclipsetheatre.org.uk
