Plans to construct a new cultural enterprise centre at Victoria Dock, Caernarfon, are to go ahead with a £2m capital grant awarded by the Arts Council of Wales supporting 37% of the cost of the project.
It is anticipated that Wales Tourist Board, the Welsh Development Agency, Local Regeneration Funding and European funding will make up the balance. Cwmni Tref Caernarfon is now in a position to proceed with the project, which is due to play a central role in the renewal of rural areas in Wales. The new centre, designed by the award-winning Scottish architect Richard Murphy, will include a performance space, two rehearsal rooms, workshops and studio spaces for artists and makers, gallery, cinema facilities and a bar and café.
