Three new works to be performed by pupils and professional musicians will provide the public aspect of a new three-year post created by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council Education Department.
A National Lottery grant is enabling the initiative, with additional financial support from the Education Department. The project also encompasses three year-long secondary school projects, city-wide workshops for pupils with professional development for teachers, and a website offering new approaches to composition. The project culminates in April 2005 with a huge gala performance including pieces by pupils and teachers.

The SCO is already well-known for its educational and community role and strong national identity, including relationships with established and emerging composers. They plan to appoint by July, and are already considering a strong field of applicants.
