A training CD ROM for early years practitioners is using abstract painter David Royle?s recent exhibition at the Pitshanger Manor Gallery, as a catalyst for introducing the visual arts to the very young.
Linking directly to the curriculum guidance for the foundation stage, as specified by the Department for Education and Skills, the CD ROM focuses on key themes which include drawing, making paint, colour, how paint behaves, and how to exhibit children?s art. Each section includes a video movie following the artist working with Early Years practitioners in the gallery, and then translates that back into nursery and reception class settings, where teachers follow through the ideas with young children.
