Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra has received a major confidence boost with an increase in its revenue grant from Liverpool City Council, from £100,000 this year to £800,000 in 2002/3.
As Liverpool bids to become European Capital of Culture 2008, a condition of the grant is the development of RLPO?s work bringing classical music to a broader audience, particularly young people. A partnership with Classic FM started last year and is a key part of RLPO?s strategy. Other plans include schools concerts; open rehearsals for schools and community groups and ?pay what you want? concerts.
