I found the leader article in last week?s ArtsProfessional confusing. Resource is an agency with responsibility for Museums and Libraries and yet they were offering views on the suitability for merger for a range of NTOs into a single entity.
These views appear to be out of line with other sponsoring agencies and the DCMS.
Resource talks about the structural under-funding of the NTOs but has demoted the Cultural Heritage NTO to a project client ? a good analysis but a highly questionable conclusion. The Government will share its vision for the future of NTOs in mid June. The IMPACT group will then come back to ArtsProfessional and help you to interpret the decision?s effect and to develop an informed debate. By then too, we should have a better idea about how much of the additional £15m of treasury investment in the NTO movement will be coming into the arts.
