A hard-hitting drama about the dangers of fireworks, presented by Staffordshire?s award-winning New Vic Borderlines team, has been warning children at the county?s schools of the dangers of fireworks.
Following last year?s tour, nuisance firework incidents reported to the police were cut by 60% and North Staffs Hospital reported no firework casualties over the Bonfire Night period. The team led schools workshops in September, through which they gathered experiences and stories to devise a piece of theatre which explored firework misuse and encouraged responsible behaviour. The play has been seen by nearly 3,000 pupils and performances have been followed by a demonstration in which fire-fighters use fireworks and a mannequin to show how bonfire-night injuries are caused, and dramatically blow up the mannequin to drive the message home.
