The line-up for the 56th Edinburgh Festival Fringe, running from August 4-26, has been announced, boasting 20,342 performances of 1,491 shows at 183 venues. Last year, the Fringe sold 873,887 tickets worth £6,636,093; over 70% more than the total number of tickets sold for Wimbledon 2001.
Tickets for 660 of the shows will cost £5 or under, including 10% of all shows which will be free. The world famous festival will be dominated by drama, which makes up over a third of the programme, followed by comedy (23%), and music (20%). A quarter of shows are World Premieres, including Scotsman Fringe First Award winners Catalyst Theatre from Edmonton, Canada, who return to the Festival with the World Premiere of the musical The Blue Orphan (pictured) by Jonathan Christenson and Joey Tremblay. Their most daring and ambitious show to date, the production will be performed at The Traverse Theatre before transferring to the Glasgow?s Tron Theatre.
