The RCS?s principal associate director Michael Attenborough is to be the new head of the Almeida Theatre, to succeed Ian McDiarmid and Jonathan Kent.

English Touring Opera has announced the appointment of James Conway as General Director to succeed Katharine Herbert. For the past 11 years he has been Director of Opera Theatre, Ireland?s national touring opera company


Nigel Cutting (pictured) has been appointed to the new post of Head of Arts and Entertainments at Cambridge City Council. He will head up both the Corn Exchange and the city?s Marketing and Promotions team.

Elliott Bernerd, Chairman of the South Bank Centre, is to resign his Chairmanship as soon as his successor has been identified. His resignation is due to ill-health.

Artswork, the youth arts development agency, has appointed Erica Smith as Finance, Information and Fundraising Officer. She takes over from Karen Shaw who is now General Manager of Giant Productions, Glasgow.

Stephen Newbould, who has been Development Manager of Birmingham Contemporary Music Group since 1992, has been appointed as the Group?s new Artistic Director. He succeeds Simon Clugston, who has become Performance Co-Director of Music Centre Gateshead.

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has appointed Paul Sirett as Dramaturg. He has held the post of Literary Manager at the Soho Theatre since 1994. Peter Coombs, formerly Head of Stage at the Royal Shakespeare Company, has been appointed as its Community Liaison Manager, and Nada Zakula has joined as Press and PR Officer.


The new Dance Development Worker at Norfolk Dance, which operates under the umbrella of Norfolk and Norwich Festival Productions, is Elsa Bradley (pictured).

Mark Courtice is leaving his post of Chief Executive of the Theatre Royal Brighton to pursue education projects and production work. He was formerly Administrative Director at the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton.

Oliver Shiell, Sponsorship Co-ordinator at Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO), has left for a position at Scottish Opera; and Heather Ummel-Wagner has joined SCO as Fundraising Co-ordinator.

Suffolk Coastal has appointed its first Arts Development Officer, Kevin Gosling, who was previously a Senior Consultant with Lord Cultural Resources.

The Independent Theatre Council has appointed Jackie Elliman as Legal and Industrial Relations Manager. She has been working with Equity since 1999.

The new General Manager at the Jerwood Space is Peter Wilkinson, formerly of Wigmore Hall. Clair Montier is now Business Co-ordinator and Lizzy Ferguson is the new Receptionist.
