Following the announcement by the Board of Southern Arts that it has agreed in principle to transfer its staff, assets and liabilities to a single national arts funding body on March 31, Robert Hutchison (pictured), Chief Executive of Southern Arts since 1996, has resigned and left the organisation on March 7.

Audiences London, formerly known as the London Arts Marketing Project, has appointed Anne Torreggiani as its first Director. Anne, who is currently Marketing Director of LIFT, the London International Festival of Theatre, will be taking up her new position full time in June.

Peter Tod, who has been Director of Birmingham Hippodrome since 1988, has decided to leave at the end of May. His career in theatre administration has spanned a total of 33 years. In future he hopes to continue his involvement with the Hippodrome with the development of new work, especially new musicals.

Libby MacNamara, Director of the Association of British Orchestras for the past 12 years, is to leave the music world this spring to embark on a course of study in pastoral theology and a new life dedicated to the church.

Ruth Little has been appointed Literary Manager at London?s Soho Theatre. Most recently she was Literary Manager of Out of Joint and was previously a senior reader at the Royal Court Theatre.

Yorkshire Arts has appointed three new arts officers. Mark Hollander is the new Theatre Development Officer; Alison Andrews joins as full-time Performing and Combined Arts Officer; and Sara Trentham has been appointed as Visual Arts and Crafts Officer, with particular responsibility for individual practitioners.

Rupert Rhymes, recently retired after 15 years as Chief Executive of SOLT / TMA, succeeds Sir John Drummond as Chairman of The Theatres Trust in April.

Gina Feegan has been appointed Chief Executive of Screen South, the new body responsible for funding, education and distribution of film in the southern region.

The new East Midlands Museums, Libraries and Archives Council has appointed Dr Timothy Hobbs as its first Chief Executive. Dr Hobbs is currently the University Librarian at the University of Leicester.


Julia Fawcett (pictured), the present Chief Executive of Dynamic Earth in Scotland, and originally from Ordsall in Salford, is to join The Lowry as Group Chief Executive.

Sheffield Galleries and Museums have appointed Nick Dodd, currently Wolverhampton?s Head of Arts and Museums, as Chief Executive to succeed Dr Gordon Rintoul who has recently left the Trust to become Director of the National Museums and Galleries for Scotland.

Helen James has been appointed as Professional Development Officer for engage. She was formerly Research and Education Co-ordinator at Open Eye in Liverpool, and has managed a programme of educational initiatives for the Association of Photographers.
