Gwen Hughes will join the Arts Council of England in August in a new post as Head of Classical Music within the Music Department. Currently Head of Classical Music Online within BBC Radio and Music New Media, she has been overseeing the development and launch of BBC Classical Music sites.

Birmingham Repertory Theatre has announced that its Chief Executive, John Stalker, is to leave at the end of the year to take up the post of Chief Executive of the Festival City Theatres Trust which runs Edinburgh Festival Theatre and King?s Theatre in Edinburgh.

Yorkshire Arts has appointed Cluny Macpherson, who was formerly with the Arts and Regeneration Unit of Leeds City Council, as Regional Development Officer (Local Strategy). Jane Marescaux has been appointed as Dance Officer. She has worked as the Development Officer at Newcastle-based DanceCity for the past six years.

Valleys Arts Marketing has announced that Michelle Jaynes has been promoted to the position of Marketing and Research Officer, replacing Sally Thomas who is leaving to take up a new post with Cardiff County Council.

Northern School of Contemporary Dance has appointed Gurmit Hukam, currently Artistic Director of Contemporary Dance Studies and year 3 Leader, as its Principal. He will succeed founding Principal, Nadine Senior, who has announced her retirement in December 2001.

Verena Cornwall, formerly Centre Director at Fairfields Arts Centre, has been appointed Director of Development for the museums portfolio managed by the Imperial War Museum; and at Imperial War Museum North, Claire Hughes has been promoted to Head of Development. Hannah Jackson has been appointed Administrative Assistant at The Academy of Ancient Music.


Rachel Dominy (pictured) has been appointed as the first full time Festival Director of the Arundel Festival. She has previously worked at Glyndebourne as Project Manager to the Education Department, as Music Officer at the Arts Council of England, and was Associate Director at Garsington.

The Lyric Theatre Belfast has announced the appointment of Paula McFetridge as Artistic Advisor to the theatre. She was Artistic Director for the Tinderbox production of ?Convictions?, which won Best Production 2000 in the Irish Theatre Awards.

Resource:The Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries has appointed Terry Marshall as Finance Director. He joins from the Legal Services Commission where he was Financial Accounts Manager.
