21st birthday

established 1983
e: mail@cardiff-arts-marketing.co.uk

How it all began?

In the Spring of 1983, John Matthews established what was to become the model for arts marketing consortia across the UK. Five of Cardiff?s leading arts organisations grouped together on audience development initiatives for the first time, and CAM quickly established itself as a major force in the development of arts marketing.

Pivotal moments

- Getting the initial set-up grant in 1983; moving in 1984 to proper offices rather than sharing a desk at the Sherman; and the strategic review of 1996 which looked towards a far more ambitious future than had previously been thought possible.
- Also, a couple of ?lighter? moments: being mentioned in the Sun for the surprising number of our telesales operatives who, after sitting in a particular chair, fell pregnant; and an item on ?That?s Life? drawing attention to some print which made it look as if we were advertising Cardif Farts!

The organisation today

The future?s looking bright with a growing membership, committed funders and a reputation for quality work. As a company, we?ve had to adapt time and time again to the changing needs of our members and clients, but this adaptability makes us more stable and robust than ever before.

A big thank you to?

John Matthews, Roger Tomlinson and Nigel Emery for laying the foundations.

Celebration events

We?ll be holding a party in April to allow all those who?ve helped to shape CAM to join in the celebrations!
