The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is to be assessed by the National Audit Office to see how it is measuring up to efficiency targets. The investigation will focus on procurement and will examine procedure and practice in the Department, as well as in sponsored bodies such as Arts Council England.
Each year, the DCMS and its sponsored bodies spend £500m buying goods and services and the report, which will be published in the autumn, is likely to make recommendations designed to contribute to Government efficiency savings targets of £20bn. At the same time, the Department?s portfolio has expanded to take in responsibility for the arts market in the UK and joint responsibility with the Department for Trade and Industry for the publishing industry and the Design Council.
