A new city-wide initiative is offering free entry to 27 of Edinburgh?s leading visitor attractions. The new City Pass costs £26 for one day or £40 for three days. It permits unlimited access to a range of attractions, including Edinburgh Zoo, the National Museums of Scotland, and many of the exhibitions in the capital?s galleries, such as the Pier Arts Centre Collection (pictured), currently at the Dean Gallery.

The card also includes free public transport and a range of discounts at shops and restaurants. Smart chip city passes have long been a feature of continental tourism but this is the first such scheme in Scotland. Similar initiatives in London, York and Bath have been credited with boosting visits to lesser-known attractions.
