Architecture+Design Scotland (A+DS) has taken over the design review role of the Royal Fine Art Commission for Scotland (RFACS). The new agency will fulfil a similar role to that undertaken by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) south of the border.
Funded directly by the Scottish Executive, A+DS is intended to act as ?the national champion for good architecture, design and planning in the built environment.? Speaking at the organisation?s launch, the new Chair of A+DS, Raymond Young, said, ?We are here to encourage and support communities in thinking creatively about the environment where they live, how it is designed and how better quality can be achieved. We want to encourage developers, clients, public bodies and other commissioning organisations to raise their game and deliver the real social, economic and environmental benefits that good design can bring.?
