A new guide to help street arts and circus promoters deal with the new Licensing Act has been published by Arts Council England, in partnership with the Independent Street Arts Network, Circus Arts Forum and Equity.

The Playwrights? Studio is creating an online directory of all new plays professionally produced in Scotland, together with world premières of plays by Scottish playwrights produced elsewhere in the UK and internationally. The initiative, Play Resource Scotland, is inviting submissions of all new work staged from January 2005.

A new initiative designed to tackle childhood obesity in Scotland has been launched by Ydance. The Dance in Schools Initiative, funded by the Scottish Executive Health Department, will distribute CD-Roms to help train teachers to use street-dance, contemporary and creative dance workshops to promote healthy lifestyles among schoolchildren. The project is set to become a national initiative for 3 years from September 2005.

The Music Publishers Association (MPA) has introduced a new premium rate telephone line to assist people searching for printed music. Enquiries will be dealt with by staff utilising the MPA?s Catalogue of Printed Music, which contains details for over 260,000 works. Calls to the line cost 60p per minute.

The Bridewell Theatre?s (pictured) future has been secured through a collaboration between the theatre?s owner, the St Bride Institute, and two amateur dramatic companies, the Stock Exchange Dramatic and Operatic Society and the Tower Theatre Company. Funding restrictions forced the Bridewell Theatre Company to vacate the building in January.
