Respondents to the consultation by the Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) on its document ?Culture at the Heart of Regeneration? have identified the need for a better evidence base with which to lobby for the use of culture in regeneration.
Although many respondents felt that more quantitative evidence is required to enable the impact of culture on regeneration to be demonstrated, they also believed that the value of qualitative evidence is under-valued by decision-makers. The consultation also highlighted the importance of visionary individuals in leading cultural regeneration projects to completion. In response to the findings, DCMS has set up a Development Forum to inform its future work. This is likely to involve building partnerships with other government departments, local authorities and Regional Development Agencies, strengthening the evidence base for culture in regeneration and producing a toolkit of ideas to support practitioners.
